These humble cartons will soon be shaped and moulded into charming bowls that are as functional as they are visually appealing.  I used x2 12 egg cartons, plus one 6 egg carton to make three cereal sized bowls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"908\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-soaking.jpg\" alt=\"Egg Carton Bowls\" class=\"wp-image-4511\" style=\"width:883px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-soaking.jpg 908w, https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-soaking-272x300.jpg 272w, https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-soaking-768x846.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 908px) 100vw, 908px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tear the egg cartons into small pieces.  Put into a large bowl and cover with water.  Leave to soak for about two-three hours.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"881\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-blended.jpg\" alt=\"Egg Carton Bowls\" class=\"wp-image-4512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-blended.jpg 881w, https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-blended-264x300.jpg 264w, https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-blended-768x872.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 881px) 100vw, 881px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then use a food blender to blend the soaked cartons to a pulp.  The water then needs to be squeezed out, so I created balls as I squeezed.    Then mush them together to gradually create a dough.   Next, prepare your paste mixture!     <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"995\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-water-out.jpg\" alt=\"Egg Carton Bowls\" class=\"wp-image-4513\" style=\"width:885px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-water-out.jpg 995w, https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-water-out-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/carolinewebley.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/EggCartonBowls-water-out-768x772.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 995px) 100vw, 995px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Combine the dough with a handful of plain flour, a sprinkle of salt, some pva glue and a squirt of washing up liquid.   Create a soft pliable dough, which stays moulded when you want it to. Press the mache into your bowls.    As you sculpt and mould your paper mache bowls, let your creativity guide your hands, allowing each curve and shape to reflect your individual style and personality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With each step of the crafting process, you have the opportunity to infuse your creation with a bit of magic and wonder. The bowls will take a while to dry.  When you think the structure is safe enough to do so, lift the mould out of the bowls and remove the plastic.  Pop them onto a wire cooling rack to allow the air to circulate and speed up the drying. Take your chosen method of decoration and go!   I used some pretty napkins and coordinating paint to decorate mine.
